Alexandria Seaport Foundation

The Alexandria Seaport Foundation teaches technical skills, carpentry and project management through the immersive experience of traditional boat building and repair. Apprentices work alongside experienced woodworkers, carpenters, boat builders, and mentors who teach and challenge them each day.

The skills learned throughout the apprenticeship program are designed to serve them throughout the remainder of their personal and professional lives.

I first met the foundation before I became a full time professional photographer and booked a shoot with them for my first day of independent employment. I was welcomed into a tight knit family of volunteers and apprentices in a creative environment that that continues to inspire.

The Foundation has since relocated their workshop from a large warehouse facility to an intimate floating building moored on the Alexandria, Va side of the Potomac River. I have made a number of visits to the Foundation over the years to create imagery that tells their story.

I love working on documentary style projects and am always in search of new subjects and collaborators.
